Flight Simulator Instructor - 550/650-EN

Role Overview

This role is an Individual Contributor responsible for delivering training primarily in flight simulators or aircraft according to regulatory and customer requirements. The incumbent acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in creating curricula and courseware when required, and may invigilate examinations.

Specialist Professional Level

• Recognized as a subject matter expert within the discipline or a key contributor in a complex/critical environment.

• Requires a professional degree with broad knowledge across multiple disciplines.

• Typically requires 8 years of relevant experience.

Maintaining Licenses and Authority Approval

• Maintain personal licenses, ratings, and IP “currency,” including medical fitness if applicable.

• Ensure any Authority approval is valid before conducting training.

Compliance

• Follow CAE/ECFT operational policies and procedures during training.

• Adhere to regulations and procedures pertaining to Authority-approved programs.

Briefing and De-Briefing

• Conduct simulator briefings and training thoroughly and professionally.

• Accurately record deviations from SOPs, procedures, or maneuvers, and discuss them with the trainee during debriefings.

Training Responsibilities

• Review client Training and Checking Authorization forms before training.

• Provide simulator instruction on one or multiple aircraft, typically 4+ hours per session, excluding briefing/debriefing.

• Conduct pre- and post-flight simulator briefings professionally.

• Deliver classroom instruction via Simfinity, CBT, IPT, or stand-up lectures (8–10 hours in classroom).

• Support development and certification of training curriculum and devices (simulator, FTD, FMS aids).

• Obtain FAA/EASA ground school and simulator instructor designation within ~12 months.

• Qualify as an examiner to perform examiner duties on assigned aircraft.

• Perform Right Seat Support duties and other miscellaneous duties (training records, remedial training recommendations, tracking instructional qualifications).

• Prepare and inspect classroom facilities and equipment prior to instruction.

Role Overview

The position is responsible for performing technical duties related to simulator maintenance and quality assurance, ensuring that all tasks are executed according to standards and completed in a timely manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Preventive Maintenance Tasks: Action PMT tasks in accordance with maintenance manuals, ensure tasks are signed off, and follow up on raised deficiencies to closure.

• Documentation Updates: Update NDBs, charts, checklists, and other required documentation across the fleet.

• Simulator Changeouts: Conduct simulator changeouts strictly following established procedures.

• QTG Reruns: Ensure all QTG reruns are signed off and that raised deficiencies are followed to closure. Troubleshoot related issues and coordinate with QTG Specialist as needed.

• Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly, update respective DRs, and coordinate with senior colleagues during AOGs. Communicate with other departments to enhance customer satisfaction.

• Simulator Monitoring: Monitor simulator issues, provide necessary information to CAE Montreal, and coordinate with senior colleagues to ensure early closure of open SPR issues.

• Database & Records Management: Update device databases, perform visual alignments, and maintain records of parts and tools in Gemini.
